Meetic (Meetic.com), making it’s debut in 2002, is a singles website that focuses mainly on international users, and offers the a very user-friendly format. They claim to be partnered with more than 50 partners including TV stations, newspapers, etc. They also claim to be the leading dating site in Europe and one of the largest dating sites worldwide. Over 22 million members are reported to have registered. There is also a section regarding successful relationships that are a result of meeting there.

Meetic is available in across the globe, including: Asia, Austria, Brazil, China, Denmark, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom (in the UK it’s called Dating Direct).

Meetic Security/Confidentiality

Meetic.com has an international team of about 30 people who are responsible for screening profiles, photos and personal ads, as well as responding to complaints regarding users who are abusive to others or have posted immoral material within their profiles. Personal information is never displayed on the site and users contact each other in chat windows with usernames selected during sign-up. Other users can only view user-selected profile information, and photos. Contact between users at Meetic is also facilitated via on-site email. Users also have the ability to block other users and place them on a “black list”.

Initial sign-up is free of charge and takes about 10 minutes. First, select your gender. Then go on to select the gender and age group you are looking for, and the country you are interested in searching. A series of pages follow that offer drop-down menus so you can make selections based on your personality, like and dislikes, etc., as well as profile information regarding the type of person you are looking for. You are prompted to write a personal ad about yourself and post a photo. A welcome email is sent first. A second email gives you a list of prospective contacts within your age group and selected country. A third email confirmation email is sent and once you confirm your email address your account is activated.

To make use of all the features available, there is a monthly subscription charge. The longer you subscribe, the less expensive it is. Fees are listed in US currency.
