Online Dating Sites- Safety First, Even for Seniors

If you’ve decided that using online dating sites to reenter the singles game is the right move for you, then congratulations are in order. It’s not an easy thing to do as a senior to step well outside of your comfort zone and attempt to find love again – especially with an Internet format that you’re not used to. But it’s important to remember that many of the same rules still apply to you, regardless of your age.

For instance, you are never too old to contract an STD, unfortunately, so practicing safe sex is of vital importance here. Sexually transmitted diseases do not discriminate, and although you may be more inclined to think a senior partner is STD-free, you can never be too safe.

Believe it or not, there has been an influx of seniors contracting various STDs since online dating sites exploded onto the scene. And if you think about it, it does make perfect sense.

Now, it’s not exactly that seniors aren’t aware of condoms. This form of sexual protection certainly isn’t anything new. It has more to do with the fact that there is little to no risk of pregnancy after 60, so protection isn’t given much thought.

The pregnancy issue, combined with the “trust” factor, can be a recipe for a really nasty STD. Let’s face it: do you believe that woman on the other end of the computer screen, that beautiful and loving grandmother so interested in you, has been sexually active or has been carrying around an STD? The answer is probably not.

But it is not at all uncommon for seniors just entering online dating sites to meet experienced seniors who are already enjoying the perks of this format.

Remember that, even at your age, sex is a very important step. You and your partner should be tested for STDs before taking things to that level.
